Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers, including the parts we're still building.

Getting Started

How long does setup actually take?

On the self-serve tier, you can be live the same day — enter your menu, connect a payment processor, and you're taking orders. On the Done-For-You and All-Inclusive tiers, we handle the menu build-out and configuration for you, which typically takes a few days depending on menu complexity.

Is there a contract?

No contract is required on the Core Self-Serve tier. Higher tiers include a one-time setup fee to cover the manual work involved, but there's no long-term lock-in beyond your monthly plan.

Do I need any technical skill to run this?

Day-to-day, no — the admin dashboard is built for restaurant staff, not developers. Initial setup has more of a learning curve if you're doing it yourself on the self-serve tier, which is exactly why the Done-For-You and All-Inclusive tiers exist for owners who'd rather not deal with it.

Payments

Which payment processors do you support?

Stripe, Square, PayPal, and Authorize.net are all natively supported — connect whichever one you already use rather than switching to something new. Funds settle directly into your own account on that processor's normal schedule, typically one to two business days.

Do you ever touch my money?

No. Payments route directly from the customer to your own connected processor account. We never hold, aggregate, or delay your funds the way a marketplace payout schedule does.

Orders & Kitchen

How do orders reach my kitchen?

A new order triggers a notification in your dashboard for you to accept or reject — once accepted, it prints automatically to a dedicated kitchen printer. This works the same way regardless of what POS you use, since it doesn't depend on one.

What if I reject an order?

Since payment goes directly to your own account rather than being held by a marketplace, a rejected order triggers an automatic refund to the customer — nothing manual required on your end.

Does this integrate with my existing POS (Toast, Clover, Square, etc.)?

By default, orders come through a dedicated kitchen printer that works independently of whatever POS you run — nothing to integrate, nothing to break if your POS changes. Direct POS integration is something we take on a case-by-case basis for restaurants that specifically want it, since it varies by which POS you're on. Tell us on the demo request form if that's important to you, and we'll talk through what's involved for your setup.

Do you support QR code table ordering?

Not currently. Our focus is pickup and delivery, where the commission savings are largest. Table ordering is on our radar as a possible future addition — let us know if it's something you'd actually use.

Delivery

How does delivery work if I don't have my own drivers?

Orders automatically route to Uber Direct's driver network for a flat per-delivery fee — no percentage commission. If you have your own delivery staff, orders route to them first.

Do I have to stop using DoorDash and Uber Eats?

No. Most restaurants keep marketplace apps running for new-customer discovery, and use OrderRail for regulars and repeat orders — the two work fine side by side.

Pricing

Which plan is right for me?

If you're comfortable entering your own menu, Core Self-Serve is the fastest way to start with no setup fee. If you'd rather hand that off, Done-For-You Growth includes full menu setup and a walkthrough. All-Inclusive Premium adds loyalty and full kitchen printer procurement for owners who want the least amount of hands-on setup. The savings calculator can help you see which tier pays for itself fastest based on your own order volume.

Are there any hidden fees beyond the monthly plan?

Your payment processor's standard card-processing fees apply (commonly 2.5–3.5% plus a small per-transaction fee) — that's charged by Stripe/Square/PayPal/Authorize.net directly, not OrderRail. Uber Direct's flat delivery fee applies per delivery if you use it. Beyond that, your monthly plan is the full cost.
